(VALLEY STREAM, N.Y.) _ Nassau County Legislator Cynthia Nuñez (D – Valley Stream) joined forces with New York State Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages, the American Red Cross, and an array of community partners on Saturday, June 20 for a “Sound the Alarm” day of service across Valley Stream. Working alongside Red Cross expert technicians, Legislator Nuñez helped to install free smoke detectors in homes throughout the greater Valley Stream community.
The event yielded safety improvements in homes all throughout Valley Stream, resulted in the installation of nearly 200 free smoke alarms, and connected hundreds of people with home fire safety resources, according to organizers.
“Smoke detectors save lives, and this initiative is one of the many ways in which the American Red Cross keeps our communities safe and protects families from house fires,” Legislator Nuñez said. “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the incredible Red Cross volunteers who generously gave their time to install smoke detectors and educate residents on fire safety and emergency preparedness. Your commitment to services makes a lasting impact, one home at a time.”
