(LYNBROOK, N.Y.) – In observance of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in America, Nassau County Legislator Cynthia Nuñez (D – Valley Stream) joined Dr. Sue Burger, the Lynbrook Kiwanis Club and government colleagues at the Lynbrook Public Library on Saturday, Oct. 3 for the organization’s Breast Cancer Awareness Tea Party.
The program included a breast health workshop presented by The Maurer Foundation, refreshments served by the Lynbrook High School Key Club, and cupcakes from South Side Middle School representing Special Sweets, which provides employment and vocational training for adults living with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
On Oct. 12, Legislator Nuñez will be partnering with NuHealth to bring the breast cancer screening van to the Gateway Christian Center in Valley Stream.
“In the fight against breast cancer, early detection is critically important, and that message one that we heard loud and clear from the advocates, survivors, and caregivers who shared their experiences during this impactful event,” Legislator Nuñez said. “Thank you to the Lynbrook Kiwanis Club and The Maurer Foundation for bringing us together for a forum that connected our community with potentially life-saving information and resources.”
