(LYNBROOK, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Cynthia Nuñez (D – Valley Stream) on Monday, July 27 secured the unanimous passage of two Community Revitalization Project (CRP) grants, totaling $291,796.64, that will fund essential equipment upgrades for Lynbrook Village first responders. Funds will be applied toward the purchase of automated external defibrillators and self-contained breathing apparatus for the Lynbrook Fire Department, and new Motorola APX8500 portable radios and associated six-bay battery chargers for the Lynbrook Police Department.
“Public safety in Lynbrook is always one of our highest priorities. This funding for new portable police radios, AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) and SCBAs (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) will benefit the Lynbrook Police & Fire Departments and the services they provide to our residents,” said Lynbrook Mayor Alan C. Beach. The Village appreciates the partnership with Legislator Nuñez and her office in securing these critical resources.”
“The Lynbrook Fire Department would like to thank Legislator Nuñez for getting our grant for life-saving equipment to the finish line,” said Lynbrook Fire Department Chief James DiGiambattista. “Being able to acquire this equipment is critical to both the protection of our firefighters and our residents. “Radio communications are the lifeblood of a first responder. Recent improvements to our radio frequency have left us with portable radios that will soon become defunct,” said Lynbrook Chief of Police Brian Paladino. “The grant that Legislator Nuñez has secured for the Lynbrook Police Department will allow us to modernize our portable radios and help keep our people safe and able to respond to our community’s needs without hesitation.”
“Our police officers and firefighters put themselves on the front lines every day to protect our communities, and they deserve to have reliable, modern equipment when responding to an emergency,” Legislator Nuñez said. “When you focus on people over politics, good things happen for our neighborhood. Protecting our residents and backing our first responders transcends party lines, it’s the fundamental duty of local government. I promised to bring county resources back to our community, and delivering this funding for Lynbrook’s fire and police departments is proof that doing the work yields real results.”
