Legislator Laura M. Schaefer invites you to attend a Community Forum on

The Dangers of Fentanyl and Carfentanil

Fentanyl and car fentanil

Thursday, April 13, 2017 • 7:00 - 9:00 PM

Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building

Legislative Chamber – 1550 Franklin Ave., Mineola

These synthetic opioids can be fatal if inhaled or absorbed into the skin. Drug dealers are mixing them in with heroin and cocaine to amplify their potency

Carfentanil has already claimed many lives iacros the country and Fentanyl, and its derivatives, are responsible for at least 116 deaths in Nassau County since 2013.

The high potency of Fentanyl and Carfentanil greatly increases the risk of an overdose, especially if a user is unaware that a powder of pill contains Fentanyl or Carfentanil.

Carfentanil can slow breathing significantly and was created to use commercially as a tranquilizer to sedate large animals, such as elephants. About 2 milligrams is enough to knock out a 2,000 pound elephant!

Legislator Schaefer asks residents attend this important meeting to learn about Fentanyl and Carfentanil, its signs and symptoms and what precautions you can take in case you come in contact with these drugs that look like heroin but are several times stronger and far more deadly! Drug treatment professionals will be on hand and available to answer questions you may have.
