[ARCHIVED] Legislative District 14 Update: 8/12/22

Dear Resident,

This week, the MTA released its environmental analysis of the proposed Congestion Pricing Plan that would affect drivers entering Manhattan below 60th street. The analysis suggests tolls could be as high as $34.50 per day for cars and $82 for trucks.  That translates to paying thousands of dollars more a year for those who drive to Manhattan. These tolls will also affect deliveries, taxis, and ride share vehicles, as well as those who are already paying a bridge or tunnel toll.

While the stated goal is to reduce traffic and fund NYC public transit, in reality, this plan is simply a $1 billion dollar a year tax directly on the backs of suburban commuters.  Nassau is already one of the highest taxed counties in the nation and with inflation and gas prices continuing to soar, we are now being taxed to go to work, to medical appointments or even just enjoy a day with family and friends in New York City. The end result of all of this will be more taxes and higher consumer prices.

The MTA will be holding a series of virtual public hearings to further explain its plan and gather public comment.  The schedule for these hearings can be found below and you can click HERE to join any of them. I encourage you to participate and make your voice heard. I will also keep you updated on any other actions I am taking to fight this attack against suburbia.

  • Thursday, Aug. 25, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, Aug. 27, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Sunday, Aug. 28, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Monday, Aug. 29, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Aug. 30, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 31, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any thoughts and ideas you may have with respect to the County or on any particular issue that you think I may be able to assist you with.  You may contact me at (516) 571-6214 or by email at LSchaefer@NassauCountyNY.gov .
