[ARCHIVED] Legislative District 14 Update 2/11/22

Dear Resident,

This past Monday, the Nassau County Legislature voted to extend the property tax grievance filing deadline to May 2nd in order to give people more time to challenge their assessments.  Remember, you do not have to pay a law firm or agency to file a tax grievance.  I will be hosting a virtual property tax grievance workshop on Tuesday, February 15 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. to help people learn how to file a grievance on their own.  To attend this workshop please visit my website at: www.nassaucountyny.gov/ld14.  There is no need to RSVP in advance.  You can just log in when the session begins.

To get information on your specific property, please visit: https://lrv.nassaucountyny.gov/  Forms and applications can also be found at: www.nassaucountyny.gov/agencies/ARC/forms.html.

Additionally, I have created a petition to demand that Governor Hochul remove a provision buried deep within the pages of her proposed budget that would effectively eliminate single-family home zoning across New York State.  This plan would require that towns, villages, and cities allow apartments to be constructed within any single-family house, or even as a free-standing apartment on their property, regardless of whether or not that addition would be permitted under local zoning codes.

We simply cannot allow this this to happen.  Those interested in helping me and my colleagues in the legislature to defeat this proposal can sign my petition by visiting my website at: www.nassaucountyny.gov/ld14.

I also encourage you to call the Governor’s office at (518) 474-8390, and other state legislators to let them know that this progressive agenda is not acceptable, and that the legislation must be removed from the state budget. You can also visit: www.governor.ny.gov/content/governor-contact-form to submit comments on this issue as well.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any thoughts and ideas you may have with respect to the County or on any particular issue that you think I may be able to assist you with.  You may contact me at (516) 571-6214 or by email at LSchaefer@NassauCountyNY.gov .

Have a great weekend! 😊

Sincerely,

Laura M. Schaefer
