Counsel to the Department of Consumer Affairs provides legal guidance to the Department regarding the interpretation and application of laws on all matters before the Department. These matters typically involve consumer complaints, issues and problems, business licensing and concerns, enforcement of consumer laws, and the issuance, settlement, and hearing of violations. Counsel assists in the overall administration of the Department and provides input and guidance for all Departmental policies and procedures. Counsel additionally serves as the legal liaison for the Department and is the designated FOIL Officer.

A HOME IMPROVEMENT CONTRACTOR and other LICENSE LOOKUP/SEARCH
FINGERPRINTING
- All Licensed Home Improvement Contractors must be fingerprinted.
- Fingerprinting is done at IDENTOGO, not at a police station.
- Fingerprinting receipts are not required.
RRP LEAD CERTIFICATION
- All Eyes on Safety Training RRP Lead Certificates will not be accepted. Consumer Affairs will only accept RRP Certificates issued by an EPA Accredited Training Program in accordance with 40 CFR Part 745.225.
SECOND-HAND PRECIOUS METAL AND GEM DEALERS
- Consumer Affairs is no longer issuing Second-Hand Precious Metal and Gem Dealer licenses.
- Please check with your local municipality for licensing requirements.
