Capital Program

Nassau County's Capital Program, which is administered by the Department of Public Works, is comprised of over 300 capital projects. These projects range from improvements to county roads, parks, sewers, and buildings, to purchasing new equipment and technology, all of which improves the quality of life for residents of Nassau County.

Projects of Investment

Capital projects are those that represent a major investment in county assets. In Nassau County, projects may be included in the capital budget if their cost exceeds $100,000 and the useful life exceeds five years. The capital budget funds projects that are not included in the operating budget due to their high cost and irregular occurrence. Capital projects are major physical improvements such as construction, renovation, or acquisition of buildings or property or purchases of long-lived equipment or technology assets.

The 2024 Capital Budget and the 2024–2027 Capital Improvement Plan were submitted to the Clerk of the Legislature on October 16, 2023. Information about the proposed budget and plan can be found in the 2024 Capital Budget and 2024–2027 Capital Improvement Plan.
