(VALLEY STREAM, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) applauded a unanimous Monday, July 14 vote by the Valley Stream Village Board of Trustees to approve an intermunicipal agreement that will facilitate the delivery of $228,980 in County funding to the Valley Stream Fire Department for the purchase of a quick response truck.
Legislator Solages secured the funds in April after he and the Democratic Minority delegation successfully leveraged their votes on the Fiscal Year 2025 capital infrastructure plan – which requires a 13-vote supermajority to pass – to end Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman’s more than yearlong freeze on first responder grants for districts represented by Democratic legislators. In doing so, the delegation secured a $1.3 million package of capital plan funding and bond authorizations for 14 public safety agencies.
The intermunicipal agreement is required for the County to allocate the funds to the Fire Department. Legislator Solages additionally secured $238,993 that the Village will use to purchase a Caterpillar Inc. 930 Wheel Loader for snow removal, material movement, road maintenance and other key storm and emergency response functions.
“Passing this intermunicipal agreement brings us one step closer to delivering resources that will ensure Valley Stream’s first responders have all of the tools they need to serve and protect the public as they respond to emergencies,” Legislator Solages said. “This is a victory for the growing community of Valley Stream and one that will benefit all 1.4 million Nassau residents, and I am thankful to my partners in county and village government for their efforts to complete this investment in public safety.”
