(WESTBURY, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislators Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) and Viviana L. Russell (D – Westbury) proudly joined the Haitian American Family Association of Long Island (HAFALI) at Mirelle’s Restaurant in Westbury on Saturday, April 11 for the organization’s annual fundraising gala.
During the celebration of leadership, legacy and transformation, the Legislators joined HAFALI in recognizing honorees Frenal Mezilas (Cultural Preservation Award), Lindell Senior (Next Generation Leader Award), Vanessa Baird-Streeter (Community Impact Award) and Ceus Joseph (Community Business Excellence Award). HAFALI’s mission focuses on bridging the Caribbean community and American society to foster engagement, cultural pride, and positive impact.
“For more than three decades, HAFALI has served an essential role in helping Haitian Americans and families from across the Caribbean become acclimated in America,” Legislator Solages said. “I am proud to celebrate an organization that does so much to help people thrive and strengthen the cultural tapestry that makes Nassau County and America beautiful.”
“As a person who cherishes my family’s Cuban lineage, I know the challenges that my father experienced when he came to America, and the important role that community organizations like HAFALI can play in assisting with that transition,” Legislator Russell said. “I am delighted by the success of this inspiring gathering, and I join Legislator Solages in congratulating the honorees for all they do to enrich the lives of others.”
