(ELMONT, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) partnered with the Nassau County Department of Assessment to bring the Homeowner Exemption Liaison Program (HELP) to the Elmont Public Library on Thursday, Sept. 4. There, dozens of property owners received direct assistance from Assessment department staff with completing and filing their applications for veteran, senior citizen, Cold War veteran, volunteer firefighter and ambulance worker, and limited-income disability exemptions.
Legislator Solages previously hosted HELP sessions at the Floral Park Public Library on Aug. 13 and the Valley Stream VFW on Aug. 26, and has a final workshop scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 17 at the Franklin Square Public Library.
“At a time when the cost of living is continuing to climb, we have a responsibility as public servants to ensure that our constituents have access to every potential resource that can help them save money,” Legislator Solages said. “I always appreciate having the opportunity to work with the Department of Assessment’s knowledgeable staff on a program that puts money back into their pockets of hard-working Nassau families.”
All HELP sessions are from noon to 2 p.m.; Participants are asked to arrive no later than one half-hour prior to the scheduled end time for the event, and to bring copies of their 2024 federal and state income tax returns and other required documentation for completing the application.
