(ELMONT, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) joined with the Jamaica Square Improvement League on Saturday, Aug. 9 to support their annual back-to-school supply and backpack giveaway at Hendrickson Avenue Park. Through the event, more than 1,000 students entering Kindergarten through sixth grade in the fall received backpacks filled with school supplies.
Organizers of the event also paid tribute to former Elmont Superintendent Al Harper, a cherished educational leader who worked tirelessly to bolster student performance and strengthen community ties.
“When our community works together, our children always benefit – and the Jamaica Square Improvement League and its President, Claudine Hall, do a tremendous job in organizing an event that ensure our youth start the school year equipped to succeed,” Legislator Solages said. “Thank you to all of the volunteers and sponsors for giving so freely of themselves to make this such an impactful tradition for so many local families!”
