(LAKEVIEW, N.Y.) – Dozens of homeowners from across Nassau County attended a Wednesday, Feb. 4 assessment grievance workshop hosted by Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) and assessment expert Jeff Gold at the Lakeview Public Library.

Gold, pictured above with Legislator Solages, is a former member of the Nassau County Board of Assessors and a former commissioner of the Assessment Review Commission (ARC). During the event, he showed taxpayers who question the accuracy of their home’s assessed value how to navigate the online process of filing a grievance. Legislator Solages was joined by Lakeview Civic Association President William Anders and Lakeview Library Board Trustee Lisa Ortiz, pictured above, right.

Legislator Solages’ next in-person grievance workshop is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at the Elmont Memorial Library, located at 700 Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont.

“At a time when Nassau County’s tax rolls are more inaccurate and distorted than they have been at any point during the last quarter century, it is essential to know your rights so that you can protect your family from unjust over taxation,” Legislator Solages said. “This is especially important for majority-minority communities that far too often bear the burden of a broken assessment system, and I was thrilled to see so many people taking advantage of this free service. I applaud Jeff for his unwavering commitment to educating the public and thank the Lakeview Public Library for being such gracious hosts.”
