WHAT – Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) will partner with New York State Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages and the Haitian American Family of Long Island, Inc. (HAFALI) to host a Haitian Heritage Month celebration at the Valley Stream VFW on Friday, May 22. The event, which falls four days after Haitian Flag Day on Monday, May 18, will feature a showcase of fine art, dancing, cultural spotlights, and more.
“Here in Nassau County and across our nation, Haitian Americans strengthen our communities and contribute to the richness of America’s cultural tapestry,” said Legislator Solages, who in 2012 became the first Haitian American to serve in the Nassau County Legislature. “At this tremendously challenging time in the history for the diaspora, events like this replenish our spirit and reaffirm our commitment to supporting the people of our beloved homeland in the struggle to restore peace and prosperity to the Caribbean’s first independent republic.”
