(GLEN COVE, N.Y.) – With the looming Friday, July 11 launch of the Glen Cove Business Improvement District’s annual Downtown Sounds concert series, Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) is proud to report that her office has secured $17,500 in County resources to support the beloved summer concert series.
The first round of funding was solidified last fall when Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton secured the release of a long-awaited $7,500 grant from the County’s Hotel-Motel Occupancy Tax fund as part of capital plan negotiations. More recently, those funds were further enhanced by an additional $10,000 grant drawn from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.
First held as Jazz in the Square in 1997, Downtown Sounds has become a major regional draw that attracts thousands of people to downtown Glen Cove, with top-flight talent spanning musical genres applying to perform on the main stage. The concert series is organized by the Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District (BID).
“With the 30th anniversary of Downtown Sounds fast approaching, I am committed to working alongside the Glen Cove Downtown BID to ensure this cherished tradition is as strong and vibrant as ever when it reaches that important milestone,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “If you’ve never been to a Downtown Sounds concert before, the 2025 season promises something for everybody – and I encourage everyone to join us for an event that will have you dancing in the streets this summer!”
Concerts begin in Glen Cove Village Square at 7:30 p.m. For a full concert schedule, visit https://www.facebook.com/www.glencovedowntown.org.
