(FRANKLIN SQUARE, N.Y.) – Prior to the start of the Nassau County Legislature’s Monday, Oct. 20 meeting, Legislator Olena Nicks (D – Uniondale) and Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) led their Minority Caucus colleagues and the full Legislature in honoring Nassau County Police Department Fifth Squad Detective William Hannan for excellence that led to an arrest in a menacing case in Franklin Square.
After an employee was threatened with a gun at a Franklin Square restaurant during a dispute, Detective Hannan traced phone numbers, reviewed facial recognition and intelligence resources, and scoured databases by the suspect's first name. His efforts led to a positive photo ID and an arrest - and peace of mind for the local community.
“Thank you so much for going above and beyond and making sure that the residents of Nassau County feel safe – but also for giving a bit of peace to that victim by getting such a terrible person off the streets,” Legislator Nicks told Det. Hannan.
“You are the ones who really follow up with everything and go into the investigations to try to make peace for those victims - and that’s so important,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “We always worry about the downsides of technology – I’m happy to hear an upside and how you were able to get all that information. Congratulations, and thank you for making us proud every day!”
