(UNIONDALE, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Olena Nicks (D – Uniondale) partnered with New York State Assemblyman Noah Burroughs to host a property tax reduction workshop at the Uniondale Fire Department’s Van Ness Fire Station on Thursday, Sept. 18.
During the event, dozens of property owners enjoyed gourmet samplings from Wild Fork, which recently opened a new location in West Hempstead, as they learned how to file for veteran, senior citizen, Cold War veteran, volunteer firefighter and ambulance worker, and limited-income disability property tax exemptions through the County and STAR/Enhanced STAR through the state.
“Important conversations are made easier when we can come together and share a meal as a community – and that is exactly what we are able to achieve with this unique and collaborative approach to our property tax reduction workshop,” Legislator Nicks said. “I am thankful to Assemblyman Burroughs, the team at Wild Fork, our hosts at the Uniondale Fire Department, and everyone who joined us for an empowering evening.”
Legislator Nicks will be bringing additional tax-reducing resources to the communities of District 2 through the Homeowner Exemption Liaison Program (HELP) on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at Hempstead Village’s Kennedy Memorial Park; and Westbury Memorial Public Library on Thursday, Oct. 16. During HELP events, property owners can receive one-on-one assistance from Department of Assessment staff with completing and filing their exemption applications.
All HELP sessions are from noon to 2 p.m.; Participants are asked to arrive no later than one half-hour prior to the scheduled end time for the event, and to bring copies of their 2024 federal and state income tax returns and other required documentation for completing the application.
