(MINEOLA, N.Y.) – In observance of March as Women’s History Month, Nassau County Legislator Olena Nicks (D – Uniondale) welcomed a group of outstanding women to the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building on Wednesday, March 25 to celebrate their impact upon the communities of District 5.
Honorees at the program, which opened with a stirring performance by Uniondale High School’s renowned Rhythm of the Knight show choir, included:
- Uniondale High School Girls Wrestling Team
- Paulana Lamonier, Multimedia Journalist & Founder, Black People Will Swim
- Dr. LaShawn Lukes, President, New Greater Hempstead Chamber of Commerce
- Rita Brown, Owner – For Juice Sake, West Hempstead
- Ebony Guerrier, Founder - Mrs. G's Brown Bag Charity (Uniondale)
- Barbara Hafner, Public Education Advocate & retired teacher, W. Hempstead UFSD
- Barbara “Bobbie” Powell, President, Hempstead Branch of the NAACP
- Tina Hodge-Bowles, Executive Director, Operation Get Ahead
“Across a wide spectrum of essential endeavors, women make a tremendous impact on our communities and enrich our lives.
