
(UNIONDALE, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Olena Nicks (D – Uniondale) took the oath of office at Uniondale’s Cradle of Aviation Museum on Thursday, Jan. 8 for her first full term representing the communities of Legislative District 5, which encompasses the communities of Uniondale, West Hempstead, Hempstead Village and Franklin Square.
Legislator Nicks began her service on Feb. 25, 2025, when she won a special election in the former Legislative District 2.
With family, friends and loved ones looking on, looking on, Legislator Nicks and her Minority Caucus colleagues were sworn in New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The ceremony included vocal performances by Uniondale High School’s internationally acclaimed Rhythm of the Knight show choir.
“I remain firmly convinced that, at this tumultuous and consequential moment in history, our voices are our power, and collectively we have tremendous strength,” Legislator Nicks said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside the communities of Legislative District 5 in in the fight for a better future, and I am deeply humbled by the trust you have placed in me.”
