(UNIONDALE, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Olena Nicks (D – Uniondale) joined forces with the Uniondale Fire Department, the Nassau County Police Department, and an array of community stakeholders to host National Night Out at the Uniondale Fire Department’s Van Ness Fire Station on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
For more than four decades, National Night Out events have been held in thousands of communities each year on the first Tuesday in August to promote “police-community partnerships and camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.” National Night Out enhances relationships between law enforcement and communities by bringing police and residents together in a fun and welcoming atmosphere.
Hundreds who attended enjoyed an evening filled with entertainment, giveaways, snacks, community resources and activities for all ages. A free raffle for attendees included prizes like tickets to an upcoming Long Island Ducks game, signed memorabilia from the New York Islanders and members of the 2026 NBA championship-winning New York Knicks, a new TV, bicycles, and more.
“Across America, National Night Out events build bridges between our communities and our first responders, and those relationships keep us safe and secure all throughout the year,” Legislator Nicks said. “I am so thankful to the Uniondale Fire Department for hosting us, the Nassau County Police Department for their unwavering commitment to service, and all of the sponsors who supported this event and donated the amazing raffle prizes. It was a truly wonderful evening with something for the entire family to enjoy!”
