(UNIONDALE, NY) – Nassau County Legislator Olena Nicks will be joined by members from the Legislature’s Minority Caucus, along with parishioners and community members from Zion Cathedral Church of God in Freeport, to host a public Kwanzaa celebration at the Roosevelt Field Mall featuring drumming, African dance, and the lighting of a giant mosaic kinara, beginning with Umoja – Unity.
The event will bring a traditional family and community-centered observance into one of Long Island’s most visible public spaces. Rather than formal speeches, the program unfolds through music, movement, ritual, providing strong visuals and natural sound for television.
Visuals include a drum procession through the mall court, celebratory dance performances, the lighting of candles representing the Seven Principles of Kwanzaa, and moments of reflection with local legislators, clergy, elders, and community members.
The celebration will highlight unity, culture, and community leadership expressed through shared space and shared experience.
