Good evening:
The following is a statement from Nassau County Legislator Olena Nicks (D – Uniondale) –
“As the ranking member of the Legislature’s Health & Social Services committee, and a representative of communities that rely heavily upon Nassau University Medical Center for essential care, I am committed to ensuring its long-term viability as an essential healthcare resource,” Nassau County Legislator Olena Nicks (D – Uniondale) said. “After decades of the medical center being exploited as a political patronage mill, it was County Executive Blakeman’s gross mismanagement, under hand-picked, unqualified political cronies, that brought NUMC to the brink of closure. This jeopardized care for more than 270,000 people - many of whom have no other access to medical resources. I thank Governor Kathy Hochul for delivering nearly $110 million in vital funds to secure NUMC’s future, and applaud her and Senator Siela A. Bynoe for spearheading reforms that will dismantle the culture of corruption and put patients first.”
