Legislators Nicks & Solages Invite Property Owners to Register for Tax Relief at Franklin Square Homeowner Exemption Liaison Program (HELP) Event
WHAT: Nassau County Legislators Olena Nicks (D – Uniondale) and Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) are partnering with the Nassau County Department of Assessment to bring the Homeowner Exemption Liaison Program (HELP) to the Franklin Square Library on Thursday, July 9.
During HELP events, Department of Assessment staff provide homeowners with individual assistance with completing and filing applications for veteran, senior citizen, Cold War veteran, volunteer firefighter and ambulance worker, and limited-income disability exemptions. Enhanced STAR applications will also be processed for homeowners already enrolled in the STAR program prior to Jan. 2, 2015.
All HELP sessions are from noon to 2 p.m. Participants are asked to arrive no later than one half-hour prior to the scheduled end time for the event, and to bring copies of their 2025 federal and state income tax returns and other required documentation for completing the application.
“Nassau County residents deserve every opportunity to secure tax relief and make daily life more affordable, and HELP workshops deliver personalized assistance and an opportunity to complete and file applications for exemptions in one convenient setting,” Legislator Nicks said. “Whether you are renewing or filing for the first time, I encourage you to join us and make sure that your family is receiving every exemption that you qualify for.”
“Even in the best of times, Nassau County’s high cost of living and broken assessment system make it extremely difficult to make ends meet – and that is why it is so important for us as homeowners to ensure that wea re receiving every exemption that we have earned,” Legislator Solages said. “HELP workshops give you the hands-on assistance to complete and file your applications all in one visit, and whether you are filing for the first time or renewing your exemptions, I encourage you to take advantage of this important community resource.”
