(UNIONDALE, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Olena Nicks (D – Uniondale) joined the Uniondale Community Land Trust on Saturday, Feb. 21 to welcome the Kelly family as Uniondale’s newest homeowners. Their new home was the latest success of the Land Trust’s approach to creating sustainably affordable homes through grassroots, community-led development focused on “turning vacancy and abandonment into stable homeownership and economic opportunity,” according to its mission statement.
“First and foremost, I want to welcome the Kellys to Uniondale. What you are all going to find out is that the Uniondale community is so close-knit. We stick together, and our issues that we fight for really are important to us, and it what makes this one of the best communities to live in,” Legislator Nicks, a member of the Land Trust board, said. “To be able to make home ownership a possibility and change that from a dream to a reality is so important, and I can’t wait for additional projects that the Land Trust is going to push forward.”
