Legislator Nicks Celebrates Outstanding Women Of District 5

WHAT – In observance of March as Women’s History Month, Nassau County Legislator Olena Nicks (D – Uniondale) is honoring outstanding women who make a tremendous impact on the communities of District 5.

During the Wednesday, March 25 celebration at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building, Legislator Nicks will recognize:

  • Uniondale High School Girls Wrestling Team
  • Paulana Lamonier, Multimedia Journalist & Founder, Black People Will Swim
  • Dr. LaShawn Lukes, President, New Greater Hempstead Chamber of Commerce
  • Rita Brown, Owner – For Juice Sake, West Hempstead
  • Ebony Guerrier, Founder - Mrs. G's Brown Bag Charity (Uniondale)
  • Barbara Hafner, Public Education Advocate & retired teacher, W. Hempstead UFSD
  • Barbara “Bobbie” Powell, President, Hempstead Branch of the NAACP
  • Tina Hodge-Bowles, Executive Director, Operation Get Ahead

“In the worlds of business, athletics, youth enrichment and advocacy, women of all ages do so much to uplift the communities of District 5,” Legislator Nicks said. “This event is just a small token of our appreciation for their tireless efforts, and I hope you’ll join us for an inspiring evening celebrating outstanding community leaders!”
