WHAT – In observance of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in America, Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D - Glen Cove) is partnering with NuHealth to bring the breast cancer screening van to the Charles Evans Center in Glen Cove on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Appointments are required, and free mammograms and breast exams will be provided for uninsured women over age 40 based on eligibility guidelines. Women who have gone more than a year since their last mammogram will be required to get a prescription from their doctor (if they have insurance) and provide any past films (if available).

“Early detection is critically important in the treatment of breast cancer, and NUMC’s mammography van makes it easy and convenient to receive proactive and potentially life-saving care,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “If you are overdue for a mammogram, I can think of no better way of honoring the spirit and mission of Breast Cancer Awareness Month than by making an appointment and taking charge of your health.”

For more information and to make an appointment while availability lasts, contact Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton’s office at (516) 571-6211 or dderiggiwhitton@nassaucountyny.gov.
