(PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) and the Department of Assessment brought the Homeowners Exemption Liaison Program (H.E.L.P.) program to the Port Washington Public Library on Thursday, Sept. 3. During the seminar, more than 80 property owners received individual assistance from Department of Assessment staff with completing and filing for their veteran, senior citizen, Cold War veteran, volunteer firefighter and ambulance worker and limited-income disability exemptions.
“Nassau County is an amazing place to live and raise a family – and my most important job as an elected official is ensuring that it is as affordable as possible for us to do so,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “It was wonderful to see more than 80 people taking advantage of these resources, and I thank John McQuade and his team at the Department of Assessment for offering their guidance to the Port Washington community. I encourage anyone who still needs to file for their exemptions to attend any one of the remaining workshops around the County, which are open to all homeowners.”
All H.E.L.P. sessions are from noon to 2 p.m.; participants are asked to arrive no later than one half-hour prior to the scheduled end time for the event, and to bring copies of their 2025 federal and state income tax returns and other required documentation for completing the application.
