(GLEN COVE, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) secured the unanimous passage of a $110,000 Community Revitalization Project (CRP) grant for improvements at the city of Glen Cove’s John Maccarone Memorial Stadium. The funds will be applied toward the purchase and installation of new bleachers, sprinklers and fencing for the facility.

Covering more than 19 acres, the John Maccarone Memorial Stadium is located on Morris Avenue and includes eight baseball/softball fields, three batting cages and one regulation-size basketball court.

The facility is named after the late John J. Maccarone, who became a legendary figure in Glen Cove through his leadership as the City’s Parks and Recreation Director. He was additionally instrumental in the 1982 formation of the Glen Cove Hall of Fame, which recognizes the accomplishments of the City’s outstanding high school athletes and has awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships to deserving student athletes.

“Myself and the City Council are incredibly grateful to Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton, and the Nassau County Legislature for securing and approving this grant for improvements to Maccarone Stadium,” said City of Glen Cove Mayor Pamela Panzenbeck. “This investment will help us enhance an important community facility that serves our young athletes, families, and residents throughout Glen Cove. We appreciate the County’s continued partnership and commitment to our city.”

“For spectators and athletes alike, the John Maccarone Memorial Stadium is a gem of our City’s parks system that brings our community together and provides entertainment for thousands of people each year. It is especially for it to bear the name of a wonderful man whose work brought tremendous joy to so many people during his life,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “I thank my colleagues for unanimously supporting an investment in essential upgrades that will make Maccarone Stadium safer and more enjoyable for many years to come.”
