(GLEN COVE, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) secured the unanimous passage of a $200,000 Community Revitalization Project (CRP) grant for the City of Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department. The funds will be applied toward the purchase of 20 self-contained breathing apparatus.
“This grant will equip us to upgrade our members’ old gear and acquire second sets of gear for members. Having additional gear will give us the operational flexibility to wash PPE as frequently as needed, which will protect our members from cancer-causing carcinogens,” said Glen Cove FD Chief of Department Justin Valeo. “All of us at the City of Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department thank Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton for her continued support and securing these vital funds for our members.”
“The men and women of the Glen Cove Fire Department exemplify the spirit of selfless, courageous service that sustains volunteer fire departments throughout our County, and I am committed to doing all I can to support their mission,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “It gives me comfort knowing that this grant will provide our outstanding first responders with the equipment they need to stay safe as thy rush toward danger, and I thank my colleagues for voting unanimously to approve this vital public safety grant.”
