WHAT – Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) is teaming up with Greenberg Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology and dermatologist Dr. Eve Lupenko to provide free skin cancer screenings at the Glen Cove Senior Center from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Friday, October 9.
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, approximately 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70, and more people are diagnosed with skin cancer each year in the U.S. than all other cancers combined. However, when detected early, the five-year survival rate for melanoma is 99 percent.
“After a beautiful summer in which many of us have spent extended periods of time in the sun, it’s so important to make sure you’re up to date on your skin cancer screenings – especially as we age and deal with the challenges that come with a lifetime of sun exposure,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “With early detection, the five-year rate of survival for melanoma is 99 percent, and that’s what makes it so important to be examined regularly. I thank Dr. Greenberg and Dr. Lupenko for their ongoing commitment to improving skin health in our community, and I hope you’ll take advantage of this free opportunity!”
