(GLEN COVE, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) secured $152,106 in additional funding for the City of Glen Cove to apply toward Phase II improvements to the recently-reopened Crescent Beach in Glen Cove, and to buy a Caterpillar Compact Track Loader that will be used to maintain the upgrades.
Crescent Beach reopened for the 2026 bathing season after being closed for 17 years due to bacteria contamination from a nearby estuary. Cleaning up the beach has been a top priority for Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton since her time as a Glen Cove City Councilwoman.
As a Legislator, Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton previously secured $1 million in County-level bond authorization to fund past and future improvements, including the installation of cutting-edge Helix filter systems and a box culvert near the base of the stream, utilizing plantings that naturally absorb bacteria, and creating a new conduit, to reduce and manage bacteria levels.
“After more than 17 years of hard work and dedication, it is essential for us to take all necessary steps to preserve and build upon the progress we have made, “Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “Collaboration between multiple levels of government is what made it possible to reopen this beach, and I am committed to working with City leaders and all stakeholders to ensure the residents of Glen Cove can fully enjoy this spectacular and serene beach for generations to come!”
