(MINEOLA, N.Y.) Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D - Freeport) joined social workers from the Nassau County Department of Social Services and her colleagues in government to commemorate March as National Professional Social Work Month during a dome-lighting ceremony at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building on Friday, March 25.

“Far too often, social workers do not receive the accolades they so richly deserve for their lifesaving and life-enriching efforts,” Legislator Mulé said. “As a social worker myself, I feel it is especially important to spotlight the tremendous positive impact that these everyday heroes make in our society. That is why, in 2018, I spearheaded Nassau County’s first dome lighting honoring National Professional Social Work Month, and I am grateful that this public display of gratitude has become an annual tradition at the Legislature.”

According to the National Association of Social Workers, America’s more than 680,000 social workers empower and elevate millions of people every day, including some of our society’s most vulnerable citizens. National Professional Social Work is an opportunity for social workers and their supporters to educate the public about the invaluable contributions of the profession and begin a conversation on how to boost the pay of social workers.
