(FREEPORT, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislators Olena Nicks (D – Uniondale) and Viviana L. Russell (D – Westbury) joined the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) Long Island Cross County Section at Bethel AME Church on Saturday, Sept. 26 for the organization’s Installation of Officers & Youth Pinning Ceremony.
NCNW’s mission is to lead, advocate for and empower women of African descent, their families and communities. NCNW fulfills its mission through research, advocacy, national and community-based services and programs on issues of health, education and economic empowerment in the United States and Africa.
“By mentoring the next generation of young leaders, organizations like NCNW build bridges to opportunity that will be felt well beyond the communities of Nassau County,” Legislator Nicks said. “Thank you to the Long Island Cross Country Section’s leadership for your tireless efforts and Bethel AME Church for being such gracious hosts!”
“Empowering women, engaging our youth, and strengthening our communities are at the core of building a brighter future across Nassau County,” Legislator Russell said. “Congratulations to the newly installed officers, as well as the inspiring young leaders who were pinned during a special morning celebrating a rich legacy of service rooted in the enduring vision of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune and Dr. Dorothy Irene Height.”
