"Last night, Young Israel of West Hempstead, a house of worship in our district, was vandalized. An attack on any place where our neighbors gather to pray is an attack on the whole of our community, and I condemn it without reservation," Nassau County Legislator Olena Nicks (D - Uniondale) said.
"I have been in direct contact with Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder. The suspect, who is known to law enforcement and is believed to have vandalized other properties as well, has been arrested. The Nassau County Police Department is working alongside other law enforcement agencies to protect the congregation and surrounding community. I am grateful for their swift response," Legislator Nicks added.
"To the rabbi, the leadership, and every member of Young Israel: You are not alone. West Hempstead is a community that looks out for one another, and the people of the Fifth District stand with you. My office will remain in close contact with the synagogue and the Police Department, and I will share updates as more information becomes available," Legislator Nicks concluded. "If anyone has information related to this incident, please contact the Nassau County Police Department's Fifth Precinct or Hate and Bias Hotline."
