[ARCHIVED] Following Demands by Minority Caucus Blakeman Administration Announces Selection for Acting Assessor

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - On Thursday, May 5, it was revealed that the administration of Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman has selected Matthew Cronin to serve as Acting Assessor. Today’s news comes after a nearly monthlong period during which the County has been without a duly appointed Assessor or Acting Assessor - a deficiency which was pointed out by Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D - Freeport) in an April 19 letter to the administration.

Mr. Cronin resides in Amityville; his brother, Richard P. Cronin, currently serves as Chairperson of the Nassau County Tax Certiorari Committee.

Following yesterday’s news, Legislator Mulé issued the following statement:

“Although the Blakeman administration finally heeded our call, their mishandling of this matter should concern every Nassau taxpayer - especially those who exercised their right to challenge the assessed value of their property,” Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D - Freeport) said. “We also question the wisdom of selecting a person who does not reside in Nassau County - which is especially ironic since our Republican colleagues loudly objected to a prior Assessor residing outside of Nassau County - and a person with such close ties to an advocacy organization whose members profit from successful grievances.”
