[ARCHIVED] Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton Secures $75,000 Hotel-Motel Grant for Friends of Cedarmere

Cedarmere

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D - Glen Cove) secured a $75,000 grant from the County’s Hotel-Motel Occupancy Tax fund to support the Friends of Cedarmere in their ongoing mission to preserve and operate the Roslyn Harbor estate of poet, journalist and longtime New York Evening Post editor William Cullen Bryant as a historic tourist destination.

The funds, approved by the full Nassau County Legislature on Monday, Sept. 23, will be utilized for roof repairs, restoration of historic artifacts, acquisition of new antiques, pathway installation and other interior and exterior renovations designed to facilitate tours and public events such as concerts, poetry readings and more.

“Not only does our community take great pride in William Cullen Bryant’s vital contributions to American literature and journalism, we cherish his connection to Roslyn Harbor and value his historic estate as an asset that stimulates our local economy through tourism,” Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton said. “I thank my colleagues for ratifying this wise investment of Hotel-Motel grant funds.”
