(GLEN COVE, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) joined fellow alumni and current athletes on Saturday, April 26 for a special celebration commemorating 50 years of Glen Cove varsity softball.
Following a varsity game against Farmingdale High School in the morning, the alumni turned back the hands of time later that afternoon when they took the field for a special anniversary game. In high school, Delia – a 2020 inductee into the Glen Cove Hall of Fame – was a two-time All-County fastball pitcher who won the 1985 County Championship with a no-hitter.
“Playing softball in high school was an amazing experience, and I will always cherish the friendships I made and the life lessons I learned from competing,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “It was wonderful to reminisce with the alumni and see the current generation of outstanding young athletes who are leading the softball program into an exciting future under the leadership of Coach Kimberly Kessel and her team. Thank you for all of the memories – and here’s to another 50 years!”
