[ARCHIVED] Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton Secures $95,000 Hotel-Motel Grant for Friends of Cedarmere, Inc.

Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton - Cedarmere Grant

(ROSLYN HARBOR, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D - Glen Cove) secured a $95,000 grant from the County’s Hotel-Motel Occupancy Tax fund to support the Friends of Cedarmere in their ongoing mission to preserve the Roslyn Harbor estate of poet, journalist and longtime New York Evening Post editor William Cullen Bryant.

The full Nassau County Legislature approved the grant on Monday, May 18. Funds will be utilized for interior and exterior carpentry and electrical service; lighting and security equipment; roof repairs; interior and exterior masonry; painting and refinishing; restoration of historic items inside and outside the building; landscaping and tree work.

Hotel-Motel Occupancy Tax grants are generated through an occupancy tax on Nassau County’s hotels and lodging facilities, which are set aside for the purpose of promoting programs and activities that enhance tourism in Nassau County. These include the Friends of Cedarmere’s historic preservation initiatives and cultural programming at the site (which is currently on hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

“By providing our residents a direct link to a bygone era, landmarks like William Cullen Bryant’s Cedarmere estate strengthen Nassau County’s present-day cultural fabric. We are committed to investing in these historic treasures so that they can be preserved for the enjoyment of future generations,” Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton said. “I am thankful for the unanimous support of my colleagues and applaud the Friends of Cedarmere for their ongoing commitment to this historic gem in Roslyn Harbor.”
