[ARCHIVED] Plant-A-Row Signs Agreement for First Half of $50K ARPA Grant

Plant-A-Row

(PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) recently welcomed Plant a Row for the Hungry to the Legislature to complete paperwork for the first half of a $50,000 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) the Minority leader secured for them last winter.

Founded in 2010 by Marvin Makofsky, Plant a Row’s mission is to “mobilize the Port Washington community to grow and distribute locally grown produce to our food-insecure families and impact climate change as it relates to growing food.” This year, Plant A Row for the Hungry welcomed Alper’s Hardware – a more than 110-year staple of the Port Washington community – as the new drop-off site for this season’s philanthropic green-thumbs.

“Throughout its existence, Plant A Row has already delivered more than 325,000 servings of fresh produce to local pantries to aid needy Port Washington residents – and at these challenging times for our nation, their mission is more important than ever,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “I am thrilled that Marv and his amazing team will be receiving these funds, and we can’t wait to see what will blossom from this investment in our community!”
