(MINEOLA, N.Y.) – On Monday, March 23, the Nassau County Legislature voted unanimously to accept an $850,849 settlement from JUUL, which will be applied toward research, surveillance, education and interventions to prevent vaping in youth, support schools with anti-vaping curricula, and helping reduce vaping in vulnerable community populations.
Following today’s vote, Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) issued the following statement:
“It is a well-established fact that vape companies deceptively marketed their products directly to unsuspecting youths in the hopes of getting them hooked on nicotine, and the impact upon their health and wellness has been utterly devastating,” Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) said. “To protect our youth, I proudly introduced and passed legislation in 2019 to ban the sale of most flavored vaping products in Nassau County – an initiative that was later adopted statewide. This settlement further vindicates our efforts, and I look forward to the Department of Health expeditiously applying these resources toward research-based programs that protect public health, help vapers quit, and keep our kids from falling prey to JUUL and other vape companies.”
