(SYOSSET, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) once again partnered with the Nassau County Police Department’s Second Precinct to host an autumn “Shed the Meds” event at the Syosset Public Library on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
During the event, residents discarded unwanted and/or expired prescription medications at the library under the supervision of Second Precinct Problem Oriented Policing (POP) officers. Throughout the year, Deputy Minority Leader Drucker’s Shed the Meds events across District 16 have been responsible for the secure and environmentally safe disposal of enough unwanted medication to fill nearly two dozen large garbage bags.
“Routinely cleaning out our medicine cabinets is one of the simplest and most effective steps we can take in our daily lives to protect the environment and ensure that prescription drugs do not fall into the wrong hands,” Deputy Minority Leader Drucker said. “That is why I am always so grateful to see how the public embraces our collaborative ‘Shed the Meds’ events, and I thank Sergeant Mardoney, the entire Second Precinct, and Syosset Public Library Head of Programming Alisa Fogel and her team for always working with us to provide this important service to the communities we serve.
