Drucker, Plainview Community Celebrates Legacy of Charles B. Wang at Road Renaming Ceremony

(PLAINVIEW, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Arnold W. Drucker (D - Plainview) joined Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, the Wang family, their colleagues in government and Plainview community members on Friday, June 4 to ceremonially rename Country Pointe Drive in Plainview in honor of the late entrepreneur, philanthropist and New York Islanders owner Charles B. Wang.

Wang, who founded Computer Associates (later renamed CA Technologies), is remembered for dedicating his life to advancing technology and giving back by donating millions of dollars to charities around the world. In April 2000, Wang became an owner of the New York Islanders. During his ownership, he advocated to build a new arena for the Islanders as the centerpiece of regional redevelopment plans that ultimately did not materialize. The team subsequently moved to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and is slated to return to Nassau County upon the completion of the UBS Arena, which is currently under construction in Elmont.

“Charles Wang was an entrepreneur, a philanthropist, and a visionary who was committed to making a positive impact in everything he did,” Legislator Drucker said. “Renaming this street in his honor shines a light on his legacy and is a fitting tribute to a lifetime dedicated to making Long Island and the world better in so many ways.”
