[ARCHIVED] Legislator Drucker’s Food Drive at ShopRite in Plainview Nets More Than Half-Ton of Donations

Legislator Drucker - Plainview Food Drive

(PLAINVIEW, N.Y.) – Shoppers donated more than a half-ton of food and essential supplies in support of Island Harvest’s ongoing efforts to address food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic during Nassau County Legislator Arnold W. Drucker’s (D – Plainview) Saturday, May 16 food drive at the Country Pointe ShopRite.

Legislator Drucker hosted the successful drive in partnership with Legislator Josh Lafazan (Woodbury), the Plainview-Old Bethpage Chamber of Commerce, the Islamic Center of Long Island, Maffucci Moving & Storage and Bekins Van Lines.

Participants in Legislator Drucker’s virtual internship program, which includes approximately 20 high school students from the Plainview-Old Bethpage, Syosset, Hicksville and Herricks school districts, assisted with organizing, promoting, and operating the drive. Problem-Oriented Police (POP) officers from the Nassau County Police Department’s Second Precinct were also on hand to provide assistance.

“Thanks to the continued support of our partners in government, law enforcement, the clergy and our local small business community, Saturday’s food drive was an even greater success than we could have ever anticipated,” Legislator Drucker said. “I am especially grateful to the countless shoppers that opened their hearts on Saturday morning to support Island Harvest’s essential work during the COVID-19 pandemic and thank ShopRite owner Jon Greenfield for stepping up to host this drive.”

“When Nassau County residents are called upon to support their neighbors, they routinely impress and inspire me with their generosity and kindness,” Legislator Lafazan said. “It was a pleasure to work with Legislator Drucker and our partners in the community for supporting Island Harvest in its efforts to bring relief to Long Island families.”
