Statement from Legislator Solages on Extension of Salvadoran TPS

The following is a statement from Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D - Valley Stream) on the recent extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Salvadoran migrants:

"Congratulations to the Salvadoran community on this important reprieve. Families who have built their lives in the United States deserve the opportunity to remain together and continue contributing to their communities," said Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D - Valley Stream). "At the same time, this news is painful for the Haitian community, especially for the thousands of Haitians who have also built lives, families, careers, and communities here."

He continued: "Haiti continues to face serious humanitarian and security challenges, and many Haitian families are now facing uncertainty about their future. I hope the administration and Congress will reconsider the situation facing Haitians and work toward a fair, permanent pathway to legal status and, ultimately, citizenship for those who have made the United States their home. There should be compassion and a path forward for all families who have spent years contributing to this country."
