Lakeview Back-to-School Block Party

Solages - Lakeview Back to School

(LAKEVIEW, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) joined forces with Believe at Bellaire Inc. & Go Party on Demand to host a back-to-school community celebration and backpack giveaway at Harold Walker, Jr. Memorial Park in Lakeview on Saturday, Aug. 29.

During the daylong event, families picked up backpacks filled with school supplies (while supplies last) and enjoyed hands-on children’s activities, a sensory-friendly room geared toward neurodivergent guests, a pizza-eating contest, cash cube challenge, and more.

Legislator Solages’ office worked with organizers to secure permits for the event, and he and New York State Senator Siela A. Bynoe State contributed toward several of the attractions, including a trolley and the pony wash/petting zoo that delighted children and families. He also “made a splash” in the event’s dunk tank, where children tested their throwing arms for a chance to make their local legislator take the plunge.

The Nassau County Police Department’s Fifth Precinct and Lakeview Fire Department were also on hand with interactive experiences, and community organizations and local professionals provided an array of services and resources in addition to school supplies, such as free haircuts, braiding and more, to reduce back-to-school costs for parents in as many ways as possible. Legislator Solages is pictured above with members of the Nassau County Police Department Explorers program as they help pass out school supplies that were donated by PSEG Long Island.

“Back-to-school season is a wonderful time for families across Nassau County, and it is made even better by so many generous organizations and companies that do their part to ease the cost of school supplies,” Legislator Solages said. “Congratulations to Believe at Bellaire president Lataya Carter, Go Party on Demand CEO Annmarie Medica, and all of their sponsors for hosting a fun and impactful event that prepared hundreds of youngsters to start school with confidence and the tools they need to succeed!”
