(WESTBURY, N.Y.) – To help young students begin the 2026-27 school year on the right foot, Nassau County Legislator Viviana L. Russell (D – Westbury) partnered with New York State Senator Siela A. Bynoe, Town of North Hempstead Councilman Robert Troiano, and the Nassau County Police Benevolent Association (PBA) to present “The Road to Success” back-to-school celebration the Yes We Can Center’s gymnasium on Thursday, Aug. 27.
The Nassau PBA donated more than 750 backpacks for the event, as well as pizza, snacks and beverages that were enjoyed by all attendees. In addition to school supplies, there was music from DJs Davis ATG and Monroy Music, balloon animals, face painting, Long Island Nets Mascot Dale, the Westbury Soccer Club doing drills with participants and other family-friendly attractions. NYU Langone donated lunchboxes and school supplies, the Childcare Council of Nassau provided books and distributed other resources.
Volunteers from organizations including Alpha Kappa Alpha’s Pi Pi Omega Westbury Chapter, the Westbury NAACP Youth Council, the Yes We Can Community Center’s staff, and more helped ensure the event ran smoothly for all in attendance.
“Years ago, I had the privilege of assisting then-Legislator Bynoe with bringing the ‘Road to Success’ celebration to our community, and since that time, the generosity of this event’s sponsors has equipped thousands of students with the tools they need to start a new school year with excitement and confidence,” Legislator Russell said. “I am thrilled that this wonderful Westbury-New Cassel tradition is stronger than ever, and I am thankful to Senator Bynoe, Councilman Troiano, the Nassau PBA and our outstanding community partners for their dedication to equipping our future leaders to thrive.”
