(WESTBURY, N.Y.) - On Monday, July 27, the Nassau County Legislature unanimously approved a $27,038.97 Community Revitalization Project (CRP) grant put forward by Legislator Viviana L. Russell (D–Westbury). The Westbury Memorial Public Library will utilize these capital funds to replace the aging oil boiler currently servicing the Robert Bacon Memorial Children’s Library.
“The Westbury Memorial Public Library and the community are both grateful for the grant provided by Legislator Rusell’s office. The Children's Library at the Robert Bacon Memorial serves as a vital center for youth services and community programming,” said Library Director Egita Johnson. “During the 2024–2025 fiscal year, the library offered 28,586 programs for patrons of all ages, underscoring its essential role in promoting early childhood development, literacy, lifelong learning, and community engagement. This will allow us to keep serving the community and provide them with the programs they’ve come to know and love.
“Through its daily operations, the Westbury Memorial Library provides our community with outstanding resources that foster early childhood development, promote a love for literacy, and strengthen community engagement,” Legislator Russell said. “We must ensure that such a heavily used facility has reliable heat and air conditioning at all times, and these funds will be instrumental in achieving just that. I thank my colleagues for unanimously supporting this important investment in our young scholars.”
