(WESTBURY, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Viviana L. Russell presented a $27,038.97 Community Revitalization Project (CRP) grant to leaders of the Westbury Memorial Public Library on Wednesday, Aug. 12.
The Library will utilize these capital funds, which were approved by the full Nassau County Legislature on July 27, to replace the aging oil boiler currently servicing the Robert Bacon Memorial Children’s Library. Amidst the presentation, Legislator Russell joined Library leaders on a tour of the Children’s Library, viewed the boiler that will ultimately be replaced, and gathered on the steps outside the Library.
“During the 2024–2025 fiscal year, the library offered 28,586 programs for patrons of all ages, underscoring its essential role in promoting early childhood development, literacy, lifelong learning, and community engagement. This will allow us to keep serving the community and provide them with the programs they’ve come to know and love,” said Library Director Egita Johnson. “The Westbury Memorial Public Library and the community are both grateful for the grant provided by Legislator Rusell’s office. The Children's Library at the Robert Bacon Memorial serves as a vital center for youth services and community programming.”
"Libraries are so much more than repositories for books and periodicals. They are multifaceted, 21st century community centers that entertain, enlighten, and inform patrons of all ages,” Legislator Russell said. “It was a pleasure to see firsthand how these funds will be used to install a new boiler, ensuring this important community resource remains warm and welcoming throughout the colder months. This investment will directly benefit families and especially the young scholars who rely on the programs and resources provided by the Robert Bacon Memorial Children’s Library.”
