(UNIONDALE, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Viviana L. Russell (D – Westbury) joined Grand Avenue School families, educators, and PTA leaders for the school PTA’s Welcome Back barbecue on September 23rd.
The festivities were enhanced by the New York Coalition for Transportation Safety and EAC Network, who provided bicycle helmets and brought Otto the Robot to educate students on pedestrian and passenger safety. Additionally, local entrepreneurs from Kōre Mat Pilates Studio provided stretching and Pilates demonstrations to a group of students, parents and faculty.
“Events like these highlight the incredible strength of our school community, and I was thrilled to see so many families enjoying good food, connecting with community resources, and getting ready for an outstanding school year,” Legislator Russell said. “Thank you to Superintendent Dr. Monique Akil, GAS PTA president Kristle Simms-Murphy and everyone who came out to make this event such a success, and I wish all of our Grand Avenue scholars, teachers, and staff a safe, healthy, and successful school year ahead!”
