(HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislators Scott M. Davis (D – Rockville Centre) and Viviana L. Russell (D – Westbury) proudly joined the New Greater Hempstead Chamber of Commerce Youth Committee for its Monday, Jan. 19 "I Have a Dream" Campfire Conversation.
More than three dozen young leaders participated in the event, which focused upon the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision and pathways to entrepreneurship and the creation of a greater community for all. Participants ranged in age from 11 to 19 and came from communities spanning Hempstead, Roosevelt, West Hempstead, Bellmore, and more.
“Conversations with young leaders about their talents and passions is always time well spent – especially on a meaningful occasion such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day,” Legislator Davis said. “I thank Dr. Lashawn Lukes and the New Greater Hempstead Chamber for spearheading this event and inviting us to be a part of such an important conversation about our future.”
“Our youth deserve access to every opportunity and resource that can help them unlock their potential and fulfill their dreams, and that is exactly what the New Greater Hempstead Chamber achieved through this powerful campfire conversation with the leaders of tomorrow,” Legislator Russell said. “It was a true honor to be part of such an inspiring event, one that not only shared Dr. King’s dream but empowered our young people to recognize that they are living proof of that dream and called on all of us to stand beside them as active partners in turning their aspirations into reality.”
